110 MPH Winds, 40-Foot Waves for Alaska and B.C.

A large storm system (see Ken Clark’s blog) plowing into the coast of British Columbia, Canada and Alaska this week has left some staggering meteorological statistics, including a 110 mph wind gust.
The gust (with sustained winds over hurricane force at 81 mph!) occurred at 4 AM Alaska time at the Lincoln Rock coastal station. Here’s what the storm looked like on Water Vapor Satellite this morning. This image was provided by Scott B. of CIMSS, who pointed out that you can see instability waves with the wrapped-up storm.
The WaveWatch III’s model forecast of waves (which Ken posted Tuesday) over 30 feet was exceeded, when Buoy #46205 (West Dixon Entrance) hit 39.4 feet (with a staggeringly low pressure of 28.36″)!
Cape Decision also “decided” to gust to 99 mph today.
