A man has been rescued from being sucked into a stormwater drain after storms caused flash flooding in Brisbane's southwest. A bystander was forced to enter flood waters and rescue a man who got caught in a stormwater drain on the corner of Akama Road and Durella Road around 4:15pm. The bystander managed to hold him up above the water. The man was transported to the Queen Elizabeth II hospital with minor cuts and abrasions. About 50-70mm of rain fell in one hour across parts pf the city. About 60mm of rain fell in Laidley, near Ipswich while south of the city in Forestdale 63mm fell. Bayside Manly recorded 45mm of rain in 30 minutes, Burpengary to the north similar falls and Holland Park to the south 42mm. In Carindale and Caboolture just above 50mm was recorded.In the city's south flash flooding occurred on Beaudesert Rd at Marooka and a manhole cover was forced open by water on Juliette St at Annerley. Trees were ripped from the ground and powerlines fell across the road causing traffic delays throughout peak hour.

A large tree fell on Gordon Rd, at Mount Gravatt East cutting off traffic. A tree also fell across the inbound lane of Logan Rd at Greenslopes. Winds brought down powerlines on Blunder Rd at Durack. Weather conditions are to ease today with isolated showers predicted as the trough that caused the thunderstorm eases. The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast that the ‘unstable conditions’ will return over the weekend. “Unstable conditions may return before the weekends’ over and there will be an increase in southerly winds in the next couple of days,” David Grant, a severe weather forecaster with the Bureau of Meteorology, said. Temperatures should hover in the low 30s for the rest of the week. Other areas affected included the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Moreton Bay and islands, Beenleigh and Caboolture. The weather bureau also has issued a storm warning for Cape York, Northern Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Central Coast and Whitsundays and the southeast coast. Locations which may be affected include Mackay, Sarina, Eungella and the area west of Cooktown.
