Record Rainfall from Nalgae Pelts South China

More than 24,000 people had to leave their homes in a South China provincial capital following record-high rainfall, Xinhua News reported on Thursday.
The residents were evacuated in Haikou, on the island province of Hainan, following flooding outbursts of rain unleashed by the dissipating Tropical Depression Nalgae.
Rainfall was 333.6 mm (13.1 inches) within 24 hours ended 8 p.m. Wednesday, local time, Xinhua said. This was the city’s highest in recorded history, a city official reportedly stated.
Rainfall in Haikou was 517 mm (20.3 inches) within 48 hours ended Thursday morning, local time, according to weather data accessed by AccuWeather.com.
Additional rain, locally heavy, through the end of the week could aggravate the situation in the city.
