Talas Poses Typhoon Threat to Japan

Tropical Storm Talas will gather typhoon strength south of Japan before midweek and could ultimately make a landfall in southeastern Japan near Tokyo.
Talas, as a tropical storm or typhoon landfall, could bring flooding rain, damaging winds and inundating storm tides to the southeastern side of Honshu, Japan’s main island.
On Monday, the center of broad, sluggish Tropical Storm Talas was more than 750 miles south of Tokyo and within 80 miles to west of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands.
Tuesday and Wednesday, atmospheric conditions will be favorable for intensification that should result in typhoon status for Talas. Movement will be mostly towards the north with a rise in speed at midweek.
Estimates by AccuWeather.com forecasters is that torrential rain and high rain of Talas should reach southeastern Japan on Thursday and Friday.
