The biggest cyclone to hit Australia in living memory has left a trail of destruction across the far north of Queensland, although Cairns appears to have been spared the worst.
The storm, Tropical Cyclone Yasi, had been categorized as a Category 5 storm, but was downgraded on Wednesday by the national weather bureau to Category 2. Cars were blocked by flood waters on the Bruce Highway, south of Innisfail, Queensland.
